Metalogue 6: Why a swan?

Thanks to Gregory Bateson for his beautiful book "Steps to an Ecology of Mind".

As I'm still in the process of trying to understand what art really is (not just images) I realize it is serious play, as science is serious play, but it's play about different things. The play of art is more about organizations that are not admissible to scientific investigation. Does my own personal artistic impulse get in the way of or help the science? I want to produce tools that help me to produce the images I want. I enjoy the way that by using this tool I am shown different possibilities. I feel that with these collages I have much more control than I did with the previous methods, and that excites me.
